This Hindu festival called as Chhatth Pooja is unique to Jharkhand and Bihar and is dedicated to worship the Sun God. Thus it is even called by popular names like Surya Shashti. The festival is celebrated to thank the Sun God for offering necessities of life to the humans and even to get some wishes fulfilled.

Chhath Pooja 2011 is scheduled for 1stNovember this year. The Pooja takes place sometimes during the October month and sometimes in November, following 6 days after Diwali, the festival of lights. The Chhatth Pooja lasts for around 3 days or so and there is even a Chaiti Chhatth that is celebrated after Holi.

Also, devotional folk songs are played and sung at homes and on the riverbanks. A large amount of people gather at banks of Ganga River to celebrate the festival.
