Stage set for the opening ceremony of CWG 2010

New Delhi : The Opening Ceremony of CWG 2010 is scheduled to take place on October 3, 2010 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the Capital. The Ceremony that will start at 7 P.M. IST will go witness a three hour long journey through the heart and soul of India.

The Beijing Olympics Gold medalist Abhinav Bindra will be the official flag bearer while Indian star Athletes Saina Nehwal, Sushil Kumar and Vijendar Singh will participate in the Queen’s Baton Relay with three others.

Also for the first time, the teams from various countries will march with their contingents and will be seated alongside the elite guests for the occasion.

The President of India Mrs. Pratibha Patil, the Heir to the British throne Prince Charles, Presidents Mohamed Nasheed of the Maldives, New Zealand Governor General Sir Anand Satyanand, Monaco’s Prince Albert II and president Marcus Stephen of Nauru are attend the ceremony.

Seven glittering and mesmerizing shows have been put together to commemorate the occasion. Rhythm of India (ROI) is a high decibel table performance by the virtuosos from different states of the country. 1000 of drummers will play together with crescendo building steadily till the music and intensity reach an incredible range.

The Great Indian Journey is a rich ensemble of impressions from various parts of the country, people in different walks of life, while Celebrations is a high beat classical dance show with performers performing traditional regional dances.  Yoga and The Knowledge Tree will display the ancient Indian skill of meditation and the knowledge of holy Vedas and other Scriptures.

Last but not the least, Puppets from Rajasthan will enchant the audiences with a flamboyant display of puppetry through 15-20 feet long puppets, clad in traditional attire and operated by the experts.

Meanwhile all the shops in the Capital will remain close on October 3, 2010 and major routes have also been closed to ease the traffic to the venue.
