Happy Diwali SMS & Greetings : The Festival of Lights

India is country of festivals and Diwali also called Deepawali, holds special religious charms among the Hindu communities. Diwali or festival of lights is celebrated with great religious fervor in the month of November (in between Ashvin and Kartika month). The festival is mainly dedicated to goddess Laxmi and Lord Ganesha. During the eve of Diwali festival, the enthusiastic devotees embroil into sanitation duty to their homes and the adjacent areas. It is believed that cleanliness of place makes Laxmi happy. she bestows peace, prosperity and well-being to devotees.

There are many stories behind Diwali festivals. One of them relate to Rama’s victory over Ravana.

The legend has it that Ravana, the king of Lanka, abducted Rama’s wife, Sita and took her forcibly to Lanka. He persuaded Sita with threat, deceit and love to marry him but of no use. Ram and his younger bro Laxman with troops of monkeys led by monkey king Sugreev and his chiefs Hanuman, Jamabant, Angad and others, attacked on Lanka. After fierce battle, Ram finally killed Ravan and got back Sita.

When Ram returned Ayodhya, his own kingdom after spending 14 years of exile in the forest, the citizen of Ayodhya celebrated his arrival by lighting Diyas. Since then, Diwali festival came into being which till now is celebrated with utmost reverence.

Diwali has its spiritual significance as well.  Diwali stands for “the knowledge of inner light” and is worship of the unknown entity with no physical structure and is impeccable, infinite and eternal. The festival gives message of removing darkness from within self and leads your inner-self to the path of light of awareness.
