India enters semi-finals with pride

India defeated the 4-time world champions, Australia out of the world cup tournament 2011 yesterday by winning the game by 5 wickets. By defeating Australia out of the quarterfinals, India secured its position in the semi-finals and will play its next knock out game against Pakistan.

Just when India seems to be out of the situation, the ‘game-changer’ Yuvraj Singh took the charge along with Suresh Raina to let the team at an easy victory stage. It is a great sign for India to see Yuvraj as an all-rounder, who also got the fourth consecutive ‘Man of the Match’ title for his all round performance (44/2, 57 not out) in the tournament.

Australia, in the meanwhile, had won the world cup four times in 1987, 1999, 2003 and 2007. While Ricky Ponting gave the century to his team after long time, that did not prove to be enough against the strong batting line of India. Yuvraj Singh, Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir and Suresh Raina, all gave the crucial scores to the team to make it up to the semi-finals.

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that including Raina and R. Ashwin in the team changed India’s fortune. One player who cannot be missed out here is Tendulkar for sure. Making records with his presence on the field every time, Sachin R. Tendulkar, once again created a record by reaching the 18000+ ODI runs.
