Summary:

Mr. Joe B Carvalho was assumed to be a comedy film. It was indeed made from same intention but ended into a torturous comedy blunder. You should not waste your money on this one.

After the Dhoom fever for two weeks, now it’s time to tickle our bones with some comic scenes from Arshad Warsi starrer Mr. Joe B Carvahlo. Well, it is not exactly what I mean; it is not unusual that films like these simply run out of track completely. Let’s check out whether Samir Tewari has been able to retain the comic factor and provide enough stamina to this flick or not.

Starring Arshad Warsi and Javed Jaffrey in lead roles along with Vijay Raaz, Shakti Kapoor and Soha Ali Khan, Mr. Joe B Carvahlo is not a worthy affair at all. Apart from its title there is nothing about this movie that will interest you. It presents the conventional monotonous detective and criminal cartoon chase in same old ways. Detective Joe B Carvahlo (played by Arshad Warsi) is out of business guy who one day wants to be Indian James Bond, well it is not happening any way. Then there is female police inspector Shantipriya Phadnis (Soha Ali Khan’s character) who decoys a stripper avatar for her mission. Taking on the negative side is Carlos (played by Jaaved Jaffrey) the international terrorist.Mr. Joe B Carvalho

There will be some glances where you will get the opportunity to laugh but it’s more like mining for gold in mud. The central story track of this movie is about Mr. Joe who is assigned a case by Mr. Khuranna (played by Shakti Kapoor) to search for his daughter who he doubts that has fled to Goa. On the other side of story Dabbang inspector Phandis is on the mission to catch Carlos. The driving factor….ok- this is it; Phandis mistakes detective Joe as Carlos and this is further flexed by another gang looking for a hunt on the international terrorist. Samir Tewari tries to build a story from these twigs of confusion but ends in getting it tangled to nowhere.

The Shortcomings

Mr. Joe B Carvahlo has all the ingredients that make a cinematic torture for audiences. The monotonous plot, humor which warms you up at some points but soon fades away and some loose performances- everything is there in this film. Talent and potential of actors like Javed Jaffery, Vrajesh Hirjee and Vijay Raaz is a complete waste in this movie. Soha Ali Khan is able to take her stand although impressively and suiting with her character.

Arshad who is not seen for long makes a decent comeback but the story does not do justice to him. Music by Amartya Rahut is also not able to do any good for the movie as well.

The Verdict

Are you still seriously looking for a verdict? Ok, if you are that typical reader who is interested in knowing what the final verdict is, then I would give this movie a strict no. Avoid watching this flick and celebrate New Year over some snacks instead.
