The Nehru Trophy Boat Race is very famous Vallam Kali that is held in punnamada Lake in close proximity to Alappuzha in Kerala. Vallamkali or Vallam Kali actually means the “boat race”. The most famous event of this race is competition of the snake boats or Chundan Vallams. And so the race is called as Snake Boat Race. Apart from this race, there are other kinds of boats as well that participate like the Odi Vallam, Churulan Vallam, Kochu Vallam and Vadakkanody Vallam. The race is conducted on second Saturday of August each year and serves to be a great tourist attraction in Kerala. This year, the Nehru Trophy Boat Race will be conducted on 13thof August 2011.
