Agra is a popular city worth visiting in Northern India. There are various places to visit and see in Agra and that are a sure shot experience.

The Taj Mahal

The Taj Mahal is the most important Indian monument located in the city of Agra. The Taj was made by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in the 16th C. the King made this monument for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. The king truly loved his wife and so after her death, he constructed this symbol of love. The Taj Mahal looks and depicts the real feeling of love. As it is constructed with marbles, even diamonds and gold were used to decorate this immemorial building. Every part of Taj Mahal highlights the craftsmanship of the workers. Around 20,000 workers were involved to make this monument and it took 10 years to erect this magnificent building.

Sikandra Fort

This is one more must visit places in Agra that is the resting spot of Mughal Emperor Akbar. The fort is located at a total distance of around 13 kilometers from Agra Fort. The primary tomb of this fort stands in center of a well maintained garden that is enclosed by walls on every side. The entire garden is split beautifully into quarters on charbhag style of the gardens. Every quarter is divided by high terrace and raised paths that have narrow and shallow water channels. Fountains and water tanks are also there at every terrace of the fort.

Agra Fort

Situated on right bank of Yamuna river is the area of Agra Fort that was built by Akbar in the 1565 AD. This popular fort is known widely for its creativity and conventional architecture of the Mughal period. There is a wide variety of buildings at this fort including Diwane-E-Am, Musanman Burj, Diwane-E-Khaas and MotiMasjid. Approximately 5000 buildings were constructed in this premise with Gujarati and Bengali styled architecture. Most buildings at this fort do not exist now and there are just 30 buildings remaining.

Agra tourists and visitors can enjoy the markets of the city as well like Sadar Bazar to do shopping of footwear and other products. There are a number of good bars, restaurants and other places to visit in Agra as well. Petha is a popular sweet dish of this city and is considered to be a great pumpkin sweet in India.

Lal Quila

Last but not least, Lal Quila is another fort in Agra that is made with red stone. It is a massive fort that was built by a Mughal King. This fort includes Jahangir Mahal, Amar Sing gate as well as Diwan-E-Aam.
