Prithviraj Chavan Named as Maharashtra’s next CM

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Prithviraj Chavan has been officially announced as Maharashtra’s next CM.

Name of Chavan as the next chief minister of Maharashtra was announced by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday morning.

He said that Congress President Sonia Gandhi gave green signal to the name of Chavan as the next CM of Maharashtra.

Chavan will take over state’s top portfolio followed by the resignation of former CM Ashok Chavan after his alleged involvement in the multi-crore Adarsh Cooperative Housing Society scam.

“Congress president Sonia Gandhi has named Union Minister Prithviraj Chavan as the next chief minister of Maharashtra,” said Pranab.

Chavan will be sworn in as the chief minister of Maharashtra on Thursday, sources said.

In early morning, Chavan, the minister of state in the PMO, met Sonia Gandhi at her 10, Janpath residence in New Delhi. It is believed that the two might have discussed the political status quo in Maharashtra followed by the resignation of CM Ashok Chavan.

It is assumed that name of Chavan as the CM of Maharashtra, has been backed by Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi.
