Xiaomi has grown to be one of the largest selling smartphone brands in India. The Chinese mobile maker is foraying into the electronic consumer segment with other appliances. In a recent event in Delhi, under its flagship brand Redmi, Xiaomi launched a new range of products. Along with the new range of mobiles, the brand for the first time launched televisions in the country which if first for the company. However, this review is of the two new mobiles from Xiaomi, the Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro. Both the models will be exclusively available on Flipkart apart from Mi Home retail stored nationwide and Mi.com.

Design and Display

The Redmi Note 5 series is here to replace the Note 4 in the market. Both the variants Note 5 Pro and Note 5 have almost identical features except a few especially the camera. The Redmi Note 5 Pro has a metal unibody design with curved edges that make it look classy. The Note 5 shares the same design but it is more similar to Note 4 in terms of design. Both the phones have their fingerprint scanner on the back just below the camera module.

Redmi Note 5 Pro and Note 5 share the same 5.9 inch, full HD+ IPS LCD display that produces excitingly vibrant colors making videos and images more enjoyable.

Software and Connectivity

Both the Xiaomi devices run the same version of Nougat Android (v7.1.2). The connectivity in both the devices is standard that includes 4G with VoLTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2 and GPS. Both the devices have a micro USB 2.0 port.

You get dual SIM options in both the devices.

Camera and Performance

The camera is the most distinguishing feature of the Note 5 Pro and Note 5. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is mounted with dual rear camera setup which is powered with dual 12+5-megapixel sensors and an LED flash to make it easy to capture quality images and videos both in dark and light conditions. The Note 5 is provided with a standard 12 MP rear camera with dual LED flash.

On the front, the Note 5 Pro has a massive 20-megapixel front-facing camera along with a selfie flash. The other model has a 5 MP front camera.

Speaking of the performance both the devices are powered by an eight-core processor which makes them operate seamlessly. However, the Redmi Note 5 has a better process running at 2.0 GHz as compared to 1.8 GHz of the Note 5 Pro.

Battery and Storage

Both the Xiaomi Redmi devices are powered by a non-removable Li-Ion 4,000mAh cell that is said to last entire day on a single charge.

The Redmi Note 5 Pro is available in the variant of 4GB RAM, 64GB and 6GB RAM, 64GB. The Note 5 has 3GB RAM, 32GB, and 4GB RAM, 64GB variants available.

You can buy the Redmi Note 5 Pro 4GB RAM, 64GB variant for Rs. 13,999 and the 6GB RAM, 64GB for Rs. 16,999. The Redmi Note 5 3GB RAM, 32GB storage variant is available for Rs. 9,999 while you can avail the 4GB RAM, 64GB variant for Rs. 11,999.

The devices are Flipkart exclusive and will be available from February 22, 2018. You can also buy them from Mi.com and Mi Home retail stores.
