Despite their contributions in the 2011 World Cup these players were dropped by the selection committee headed by Sandeep Patil.

According to BCCI India Secretary Sanjay Patel, “Seniors were also considered (and) there was a discussion. But the thought process was to give preference to the performers.”

HE added, “Barring major injuries, the World Cup squad would be from this lot.”

The names which were able to make in the list from the last World Cup squad include MS Dhoni, R Ashwin, Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina. Other names include Ishant Sharma, Varun Aaron, Mohd Shami, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Shikhar Dhawan and R Jadeja who were selected for their recent performances against Sri Lanka.
