Shirdi – a religious and sacred place in India

Shirdi is known as the abode of Sai Baba. There are many religious places in and around Shirdi, all devoted and related to Sai Baba in some way or the other. Here are some of the most frequented places in Shirdi:

  • Gurusthan – It is believed that Sai Baba was first seen at this place at the age of 16 years. This was the seat of his teacher or ‘guru’ and so the place derives its name as Gurusthan.

  • Samadhi Mandir – This is the most visited place in Shirdi with a shrine of respected Sai Baba. A huge statue of the great saint is built in the place. After Sai Baba went to his heavenly abode, this place was transformed into a Samadhi (memorial).

  • Lendi Baug – Lendi Baug is a very beautiful garden which Sai Baba visited every day. His daily routine was to water the garden. There is a neem tress beneath which Baba took rest when tired. He also lit a lamp that was just beside the tree and surprisingly, the lamp is lit to this day!

  • DwarkaMai – This is a beautiful mosque that is in close proximity to the Samadhi Mandir. Sai Baba stayed at this place till his last days. There is a huge stone in the premises which was the sitting place of Sai Baba. He preached from there.

  • Maruthi Temple – Sai Baba was a preacher of humanity and not of a particular religion. Many of his preaching took place from this temple, which he visited on a frequent basis. This is a must visit destination for tourists to Shirdi.
